Biography
Enzina Marrari is a conceptual multidisciplinary artist and university arts professor working across the disciplines of mixed media, performance art, wearables and costume design, and poetry.
Her work is rooted in storytelling. Marrari focuses her work on revealing the unspoken, the shameful, the unseen, the vulnerable, the fear, the anxiety, the shared. Marrari will reference her own experiences of loss, struggle, trauma and disability as well as the varied experiences of those around her. Her work often contains narrative audio landscapes that capture the stories and experiences of the individuals she interviews. Pairing these audio landscapes with live performance fully realizes the scope of the individual and collective experiences - often presented through elaborate multimedia installations merging sculpture, wearable art, dance, performance, and sound. In this way, Marrari is democratizing vulnerabilities. Her hope is that viewers of her work experience deeper understanding and empathy of themselves and those around them.
Marrari’s portfolio of university courses include 2D Design, 3D Design, Beginning Drawing, Life Drawing, Color Design, Art Appreciation, Women, Gender & Art, Women and Gender Studies.
She received a B.A. in Art, concentrating in sculpture and figure drawing from the ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥, and a M.A. in Studio Art, concentrating in installation and performance arts from New York University.
She is a 2018 recipient of the ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥ Journal of Commerce’s Top 40 under 40, a 2017 Rasmuson Foundation Artist Fellow, and a 2015 Connie Boochever Fellow. She has received an Awesome Foundation grant, a Career Opportunity Grant through the ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥ State Council on the Arts, a Rasmuson Foundation Individual Artist Award, a Radical Arts for Women grant, and was nominated for an emerging artist award through the Joan Mitchell Foundation. She has been an artist in residence at the Cill Rialaig Artist Center in Kerry, Ireland and at the Proyecto ‘ace Artist Residency Center in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
