Traditional foods and ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥ Native cancer patients: A book talk
by Kathleen McCoy |
Monday, June 2, 1-3 p.m.
UAA Campus Bookstore
Desiree Simeon and Karen Mitchell, authors of Traditional Food Guide for ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥ Native Cancer Survivors, will discuss their book on Monday afternoon, 1-3 p.m., at the Campus Bookstore.
Traditional Food Guide was created for ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥ Native cancer survivors and provides protein analysis of wild ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥ Native diets as well as of the vitamin content of numerous subsistence plants.
Cancer is the leading cause of death among ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥ Natives, as it is for all ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥ns, so this guidebook, when used correctly, can save lives, the authors say. It also provides updated health information, advice and cooking recipes.
The public is welcome to attend this free event. Karen Mitchell is the program administrator for the Office of Native Health Research at the ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥ Native Tribal Health Consortium. Desiree Simeon teaches Survey of ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥ Native Nutrition (DN 155 sect 801) at UAA in the fall.
