SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES


Several scholarships are available for BSW and MSW majors. All social work students are encouraged to apply for scholarships offered by UAA, the College of Health, and UA, in addition to those that are administered by the School of Social Work. Learn more about general UAA and UA scholarships and finiancial aid opportunities. To apply for scholarships at UAA, submit the  by Dec. 6, 2024 to be considered for scholarships in the upcoming academic year. 

Dove Kull Memorial Scholarship

A $500 minimum award, which is available to fully admitted BSW and MSW students at UAA. A 2.0 GPA is required. Application submission deadline is Dec. 6, 2024.

Social Work Administration Scholarship

Scholarship amount varies, which would be used toward tuition and fees. MSW and BSW students may apply. Application submission deadline is Dec. 6, 2024.

Thorsness Family Scholarship

The Thorsness Family Scholarship provides financial assistance for tuition and other related educational expenses to students enrolled in the BSW or MSW program at UAA. The award amount is $1,000. A 2.0 GPA is required for BSW students, while a 3.0 GPA is required for MSW students. Application submission deadline is Dec. 6, 2024.

External Scholarships

Please review for criteria and application submission deadline on external application websites below:

  • : The Phi Alpha honor society offers several scholarships for members. The deadline is set by Phi Alpha.

  • : This scholarship is awarded to MSW candidates who demonstrate an interest in or have experience with health/mental health practice and have a commitment to working in African American communities. The deadline is set by NASW Foundation.

  • : This scholarship is awarded to MSW candidates interested in working with American Indian/ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥ Native and Hispanic/Latino populations or in public voluntary nonprofit agency settings. Up to 10 scholarships can be awarded, where each recipient can be awarded up to $4,000. The deadline is set by NASW Foundation.

PHI ALPHA HONOR SOCIETY


A National Honor Society for Social Work Students

The Epsilon Chi Chapter of Phi Alpha, the national honor society for social work students, was established at UAA during the 1995-1996 academic year for graduate and undergraduate students.

The purpose of the Phi Alpha Honor Society is to provide a closer bond among students of social work and promote humanitarian goals and ideals.  Phi Alpha fosters high standards of education for social workers and invites into membership those who have attained excellence in scholarship and achievement in social work.
