Payback Obligation & Tuition Info

ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥ WWAMI Payback Obligation

The education of all ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥ WWAMI medical students is subsidized by the State of ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥ via payments to the University of Washington School of Medicine.

The State of ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥ views these subsidies as loans that are repayable once medical education is complete.  Loan repayment can be deferred during residency training.

Repayment can take two forms.  The loan can simply be repaid in regular payments, or it can be forgiven by medical practice in the State of ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥.  For ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥ WWAMI medical students who entered medical school in the fall of 2007 or later, complete loan forgiveness requires three (3) years of medical practice in a rural setting in ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥ or five (5) years in an urban location in the state.

Details regarding the amounts of the obligation and its repayment can be found in WWAMI Overview and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), a publication of the ľ¹ÏÖ±²¥ Commission on Postsecondary Education, which administers the loan repayment program.
